Following Google’s relaunch of its Find My Device network, Motorola has joined the fray with the debut of the Moto Tag alongside the 2024 Razr and Razr+ launch.

Similar to Apple’s AirTag, the Moto Tag is a compact, circular tracker slightly larger than a quarter, featuring a user-replaceable battery. Motorola promises up to a year of tracking capability, with easy replacement using a standard CR2032 coin cell.

Unlike some competitors, the Moto Tag lacks a built-in keyring hole, necessitating the use of optional accessories for attachment. While details on Motorola’s first-party accessories are forthcoming, preview events showcased options like loops and smaller key rings.

The Moto Tag seamlessly integrates with Google’s revamped Find My Device network, ensuring compatibility across numerous Android smartphones. This integration allows users to locate the tag easily and activate audible alerts from their devices.

In a forward-looking move, Motorola has incorporated ultrawideband (UWB) technology for “precision tracking,” akin to Apple’s AirTag Precision Finding feature. However, full UWB support depends on future Android updates by Google.

Distinguishing itself from the AirTag, the Moto Tag includes an integrated button featuring the Motorola logo “M,” enabling users to ring their smartphone when the tag is within range but the phone is misplaced. Additionally, it can trigger camera functions on Motorola and other Android phones for streamlined content capture.

Like other trackers compatible with Google’s Find My Device, the Moto Tag boasts IP67 resistance, safeguarding it against water, dust, and dirt without interrupting tracking capabilities even after accidental drops.

Pairing effortlessly with modern Android smartphones that support the network, the Moto Tag offers further customization through the “Moto Tag app,” enhancing user experience and functionality.

Pricing in the United States positions the Moto Tag competitively at $29.99 for one tag and $99.99 for four, with pre-orders starting on August 2, 2024. Launches in other countries, including Canada and the UK, are set to follow shortly thereafter, each with their respective pricing tiers.
